Should I Work from Home or Get Office Space?

Answer:
When you’re considering whether to work from
home or to get office space, you’ll want to consider the type of business you’re providing. Office space would probably be beneficial to an accountant; however, a medical transcriptionist might prefer to work from a home office.

If you choose to get office space, you’ll need to consider what the space will truly cost. There will probably be up-front costs, such as deposits and store front signage costs. If your monthly rent does not include utilities, you’ll be expected to pay for those also. The cost of gasoline and car maintenance may also be a factor in you decision.

If you choose to work from home, consider designating one room for your business. If necessary, install an extra phone line. You’re already paying a mortgage and utilities – so you won’t be out as many extra expenses as opposed to having a separate office space.
