license or a permit to be able to operate your business. Depending on your line of business, the federal government may also require additional licenses or permits.

Some states allow a child-care provider to care for a specific number of children without obtaining a license. However, if the number of children rises above this number, licensure would be required. The Department of Children and Family Services in your area should be able to provide you with information pertaining to your particular state.

A catering business would most likely require a license from the city. A food handling and safety permit would also need to be obtained from your local Health Department. Inspections will also be required in this type of business.
