What is lysine?

Answer:
Lysine is an alpha amino acid that cannot be synthesized by humans.

Lysine is present in collagen
through hydroxylysine.  It is a major foundation for proteins.  It is a
major contributor to calcium absorption, building muscle protein, recovering from injuries, and contributes to the body's production of hormones and antibodies.

Lysine conjugates have potential to treat cancer.  Using phototherapy, lysine as a medication can cause cancerous cells to commit suicide, but noncancerous cells remain intact.

Lysine was the subject of the biggest price-fixing scandal in US history.  A judge ordered the Archer Daniels Midland company to pay a US$100 Million fine and several people were arrested.  Two Japanese firms and a South Korean firm were also indicted in the scandal.
