What is Consulting?

Answer:
Consulting is the act of providing counsel or advice
The word is often used in common speech to refer to how a professional or specialist provides independent advice, guidance or feedback to companies or individuals.

For example, consultants can work with companies or individuals on matters of finance, accounting, business planning, leadership, presentation skills, information technology, software development, change management, product deployment, marketing and sales, investment strategy, vision/mission development, special projects, efficiency and process improvement, etc.

The difference between a consultant and an individual contributor within a company is usually the fact that consultants are not directly employed by the company, are usually brought in for a special purpose or fixed amount of time and are valuable not only for their expertise but also their more objective perspective.  In almost every area where improvement can be made, there is almost always a person who specializes in advising, or consulting, in that area.
