Am I an Entrepreneur?

Answer:
Owning your own business can be very rewarding.
It can also be very challenging, and even difficult.  Before deciding to go into business for yourself, you need to give serious thought to whether or not you are cut out for life as an entrepreneur.  Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help you decide if entrepreneurship might be a good option for you.

Are you adept at multitasking?
Most entrepreneurs can’t hire a lot of employees when they are just getting started.  When you own the business, you are responsible for everything that needs to be done.  Many entrepreneurs claim CCBW certification.  This acronym, of course, stands for “chief cook and bottle washer”.  Entrepreneurs frequently find themselves juggling tasks as diverse as making sales calls, cleaning the bathroom, ordering supplies, creating advertisements, cutting the grass, and all types of additional tasks.  As the owner of a new business, you have to be willing to do anything and everything that needs to be done.

Are you comfortable with uncertainty?
When you are in business for yourself, there is no guarantee of a paycheck.  New businesses frequently operate at a loss for a period of time, some longer than others.  There is no guarantee of success in a new business venture.  Many new businesses fail within their first year.  Of course, entrepreneurs also have a great opportunity for financial and personal rewards. The only thing that is constant for all new business ventures is that the road that leads to the eventual success or failure of the business is paved with uncertainty.  Some people thrive in conditions of uncertainty, and relish the challenge of building a successful business venture from scratch.  This is the mindset of an entrepreneur.

Are you comfortable with sales?
When you start a new business, you will take on the role of a sales person.
You can have the best product or service in the world, but if it isn’t being sold, your business has no chance of success.  All businesses need customers.  All business owners have to engage in activities designed to bring customers to their businesses.  No matter what product or service your business provides, as the owner you have to find, and keep, paying customers in order to have any chance for success.

Not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur.  If you can answer yes to these three questions, entrepreneurship may be right for you.  Make sure to do your research, make sure there is a market for your product or service, and develop a solid business plan before making a final decision.
