When a visitor to a website clicks on such a link, and visits the advertiser’s website, the advertiser pays the advertising network. The advertising network then pays the website operator or publisher a portion of the revenue generated from the “clickable” link.

The largest Internet advertising networks are Google’s AdWords/AdSense and Yahoo! Search Marketing. In PPC advertising campaigns, these companies are both publishers and advertisers.

There are pros and cons to PPC advertising. PPC advertising can target more Internet traffic to be directed to your site, but it can also end up costing you more than expected.
